George James Stanley and his associates stole 50 head of cleanskin cattle off ‘Moongool’ Station in early 1916. The cattle were hidden on Jinkerbay holding on Wallumbilla Creek, amongst the prickly pear. Once bang-tailed and castrated they were taken to Harry Stanley’s yards, branded and then returned to the safety of Jinkerbay. When the coast was clear the plan was to plant the young steers on George Stanley’s newly acquired Muggleton Block, north of Wallumbilla. Sub-Inspector Rody Byrne of the Roma Police District, however, had other ideas.
