This publication, especially as a first edition, is scarce. At its peak, Inglewood was one of the richest gold mining areas of Victoria. It was the culmination of years of research by the author and has been printed on quality paper with a full-colour dust jacket with gold blocking. At the back of the book are a number of appendices, including a list of 3500 names of miners and the mines in which they worked. This is a 383 page hardback book with dustjacket published in 1985 by Brown Prior Anderson Pty Ltd, Burwood Victoria. It is in good condition throughout. The book provides a comprehensive history of the town of Heathcote and the surrounding Shire of McIvor. Major Mitchell led the first European exploration through the district in 1836. By 1852 the European population was nearing 400 and the indigenous population was estimated to be approximately 30. Gold was discovered in 1853 and the rush was on. Lindy Chamberlain was accused of killing her then nine week-old baby Azaria while camping at Uluru (then known as Ayers Rock). Lindy maintained from the beginning that she had seen a dingo leaving the tent where Azaria was sleeping. The prosecution case was circumstantial and depended upon forensic evidence that was eventually found to be deeply flawed. She and her husband Michael, co-accused, were officially pardoned in 1987 and had their convictions quashed by the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in 1988.
