This book is possibly the first in Australia to present a collection of major sculptures by more than thirty monumental works by leading Australian sculptors in the landscape context of a productive working farm. Elgee Park, located at Merricks North on Victoria's Morning Peninsula, is renowned for its Quarter Horse Stud and the historic Elgee Park Winery. Over the past 25 years Baillieu Myer and his family have added yet another dimension to the property by assiduously collecting large-scale outdoor works by sculptors including Clement Meadmore, Ron Robertson-Swann, Robert Klippel, Inge King, Lenton Parr, Geoffrey Bartlett, Bruce Armstrong and David Wilson. Author, Ken Scarlett, has arranged the sculptures in the book according to where they are located on a series of separate walks around the farm. The sculptures, their landscape settings, daily activities and the beautiful gardens of Elgee Park are the subjects of Mark Chew's dramatic photographs taken over all four seasons of the year. Foreword by Martin Kemp 'Arthur Boyd is unquestionably one of Australia’s greatest artists, his popularity and international reputation matched only by that of his friend and brother-in-law, Sidney Nolan. Throughout the course of a very rich and varied life, Boyd was influenced and animated by many great themes. Janet McKenzie’s account elaborates on these influences as Boyd’s art developed in Australia and England, drawing heavily on her friendship with the artist in the latter years of his life. Boyd’s artistic career began early; even in his teens he was painting professional, albeit conventional, pictures. These gave such a profound effect on the development of Australian figurative painting. By 1950 Boyd had produced a remarkable series of religious paintings, all heavily influenced by the Old Masters – his only real contact with the mainstream of European art. He went on to paint many works where his sources were specifically Australian, in particular the landscapes which, perhaps for the first time, looked really Australian, and the luminous Bride paintings, his moving response to the plight of the aborigines. In 1960 Boyd came to England, where he had a period of great artistic fertility, extending his repertory to include etchings, aquatints and drypoints, many of which were published in book form. Boyd’s work is an extraordinary mixture of fantasy, eroticism and humanism. His prodigious creativity in all media is magnificently conveyed in this beautiful and original study, which is complemented by a chronology, a full bibliography and a list of his illustrated works. Every aspect and period of Boyd’s art and life is fully documented, making this the most complete account available of this engaging and infinitely compassionate artist.' The book consists of 224 pages which contain 254 illustrations, 110 of these are in colour. The publisher is Thames & Hudson. Please refer to all the photos provided. The book is in good overall condition. Any questions? please get in touch.

Taken from the inside front dustjacket is "The Grace Park Lawn Tennis Club has numbered among its members some of the all-time greats of Australian tennis - men such as Australasia's first Davis Cup captain Alf Dunlop, Harry Hopman, Frank Sedgman, Merve Rose, Paul McNamee and Pat Cash; women such as Lorna Gyton, Esna Boyd, Grand Slam winner Margaret Court and Kerry Reid. Grace Park members have won a total of 132 Grand Slam singles and doubles titles. But this history is not just concerned with the champions. Joseph Johnson has set the story of the club against a background of the growth and development of Australian tennis over the past 100 years. He investigates the historical factors which culminated in the golden age of Grace Park and Australian tennis in the 1950s and 1960s. The history is rich in anecdotal material, which the author relates to the social, cultural and economic life of Melbourne, and in particular that of the Hawthorn area. AMAZING GRACE is not only an invaluable contribution to the history of sport in this country, but also sheds light on the social and recreational habits of the Australian people.'
