Myrtle Rose White, the author, lived in the Australian outback from the age of sixteen. She lived on Lake Elder Station for seven years raising her children while her station manager husband battled to maintain the five thousand head of cattle under his command. From these experiences one of the classics of the Australian outback was written. This edition was reprinted by New Edition Rigby Limited in 1962. It is a 196 page hardback edition with dustjacket. I imagine this may have been a student's atlas. It is covered in plastic which could be removed. On the rear of the book the retail sticker from Brown Study in Ringwood remains. My mother, funnily enough, bought many of our school books there and I remember once purchased the covering process in either brown paper or plastic and labelling would begin. Mrs. Floate was an Australian, entirely self taught cook who was well known for winning a total of 1284 prizes in competitive cooking, for example winning the G.J. Coles Cup at the Royal Melbourne Show regularly. Mrs. Floate also also acted as a judge in the cooking section of various shows. This softcover booklet was produced by Robertson & Mullens Ltd. 107-113 Elizabeth St., Melbourne. Please check the photos carefully. The corners are missing on the front cover and the top right edge on the back cover is missing. The covers and endpapers are fragile but the rest is good for its age.

A boxed set of six sterling silver mid 20th century demitasse spoons by Tasmanian silversmith Dorothy Pickett. Stamped to the underside DP HOBART STG.SILVER Dorothy worked as a silversmith for both herself and Sargisons Jewellers in Hobart from about 1947 to 1980. She has since passed away. These spoons are similar in design to those held in the Powerhouse Museum by Harold Sargison, circa 1920s.

'Scotty in Gumnut Land' is one of May Gibbs' lesser known stories. When the gate was left open Scotty was out and away! Into all the adventure that Gumnut Land and its characters had to offer. This Angus & Robertson edition was reprinted in 1988. It is in very good condition throughout. Note the addition of a book- plate which has not been written on. This publication is not dated but may, from what I have read, date to 1939 or thereabouts. Considering its age and that it is paperback it is in good condition. When thousands of Chinese landed in South Australia it was a marathon walk, originally from Adelaide, then from Victor Harbour and finally from Robe. This was to avoid paying a capitation tax of ten pounds. The provisions of a Victorian Act of 1855 sought to dramatically limit Chinese immigration by restricting the number of crew and passengers on each ship bringing Chinese into Victoria.
