This scarce helmet plate is pre-Federation and dates to the period 1854-1901. The Victorian Colonial Defence Force helmet plate is described as 'a gilt metal star surmounted with a garter bearing motto and double wreath with Victoria's emblem on top'. The motto is AUT PACE AUT BELLO VICTORIA', meaning 'Either in Peace or in War'. Both lugs are intact. There is one held in the Museums Victoria collection.
