George Mackay's book 'History of Bendigo' was originally published in 1891. It is renowned as one of the definitive works which chronicle the early life of the city, the first forty years of Bendigo's establishment and growth. George Mackay also wrote the first four volumes of the Annals of Bendigo. He died in 1948. For this 213-page reprint a very comprehensive index has been added. This booklet was printed in Melbourne by G.W. Green & Sons Pty. Ltd. At the time Laurel Kerosene was the most popular kerosene amongst Australian housewives. The Vacuum Oil Company was the first oil company to be established in Australia. The recipes and hints published in this booklet had appeared in the Vacuum Country Journal and all had been tested and tasted. The book is in pretty good condition for its age.
