Taken from the Goldfields Guide (Victoria) "The Loddon River Scenic Reserve in Glenlyon offers beautiful views, a scenic walk and a stunning waterfall. This peaceful reserve features Loddon Falls, where the Loddon River drops dramatically over a wall of huge hexagonal basalt columns into a pool below before continuing on through the spectacular rocky gorge." I believe this is an early postcard of the above Loddon Falls. It is postmarked Melbourne 8 AM 28 5 07. It has been posted to Miss D. Debney, Continuation School, City. The Mac. Robertson Girls' High School began as Melbourne Continuation School, the first government funded school in the state of Victoria, established in 1905 in Spring Street, Melbourne. Thought to be Australian and dating to the early 1900s this large commercial timber and marble commercial cheese cutter would have been used in the kitchen of a grand house or in a retail cheese store. It is a most attractive piece which would be a superb addition to a farmhouse or provincial kitchen or for farmgate sales. -
Anthony Pryor was a gifted young sculptor with remarkable achievements. He did not live to see his last major work, the 19 metre high sculpture 'The Legend' installed at the entrance of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Australian Natives' Association (ANA) was a mutual society founded in Melbourne, Australia in April 1871. It was founded by and for the benefit of white native-born Australians and membership was restricted to that group. This small booklet has 106 pages. The knife shown in the photos gives a size comparison as the booklet measures 10 cms x 17 cms. This booklet dates to the late 1800s and is in great condition for its age. In 1861 the founding citizens of Bendigo saw the upcoming 1862 London International Exhibition as an opportunity to showcase Bendigo 'so that a proper idea may more readily be formed at home of the importance of this great mining portion of Victoria.' The series of views included in this book was commissioned by the Sandhurst Town Council for this Exhibition. The photographs were taken by Augustus Baker Peirce for his employer Benjamin Pierce Batchelder. Gus Peirce was told to photograph 'all the places of interest' so there are photos of where the people of Bendigo worked, banked, shopped, recreated, worshipped, drank, were punished, healed or buried. Although no date of publication is provided the inscripted date on the front cover with the previous owner's name is 1951. The illustrations are charming and are a mix of colour and black and white. A=AC, B= Beer, C= Charlie etc. On the underside of the handle in an oval lozenge is PL TELE HAND NO. 1 1942 1944 is written on the base unit. (Canadian) N. E. 12th Light Horse Regiment (Mounted Unit of the Australian Army). Raised in NSW in 1915 as part of the AIF (Australian Imperial Forces) for service during WW1. The unit fought at Gallipoli as reinforcements as well as the Sinai and Palestine campaign and were also instrumental in suppressing the 1919 Egyptian Uprising.
